You can learn how to treat PID naturally and take charge of your health and fertility
In this article, I will be sharing with you everything you need to know about the natural PID treatment including the causes and symptoms of PID
What is PID?
Pelvic inflammatory disease, often called PID is one of the major causes of infertility in women. PID is an infection of the female reproductive organs, including the womb, fallopian tubes and the ovaries.
What usually happen is that bacteria enters into the vagina to cause an infection, as time goes on, this infection can spread into the pelvic organs (which include the uterus, fallopian tubes and the ovaries) and damage the pelvic organs beyond repair.
Pelvic Inflammatory disease may be described as acute or chronic
Acute PID comes on suddenly and are often more severe, while chronic PID is a second-rate infection that may cause only mild pain and sometimes backache.
When pelvic inflammatory disease occurs, it can cause inflammation of the:
- uterus lining (endometrium)
- fallopian tubes
- tissue around the uterus
- peritoneum: the inside lining of the abdomen
In addition, abscesses (pocket of pus or fluid caused by the infection), can also develop in the ovaries and fallopian tubes
It is important to take measures against PID on time as it can become extremely dangerous or even life threatening especially when it spreads into the blood.
Causes of PID
The major cause of PID is bacteria.
Usually, the cervix is meant to prevent bacteria that enters the vagina from spreading in to the pelvic organs.
However, when the cervix is exposed to certain bacteria including the same bacteria that cause the sexually transmitted infections (STIs) gonorrhea and chlamydia, the cervix itself will then become infected and wont be able to perform its work of preventing bacteria from travelling into the pelvic organs.
Pelvic Inflammatory Disease occurs when the bacteria travels unrestricted from the vagina through the cervix to the upper genital tract.
Generally, the following are causes of PID
Sexually transmitted Infections (STIs)
About 25% of PID cases are caused by STIs especially chlamydia and gonorrhea.
PID caused by chlamydia is the most common and it often has no symptoms making it difficult to diagnose.
Bacterial Vaginosis (BV):
This is one of the major causes of Vaginal Infection popularly referred to as Toilet Infection in Nigeria.
Bacterial vaginosis is a situation in which the good bacteria in the vagina becomes low and unable to balance the bad bacteria in the vagina. When this happens, the bad bacteria can spread into the uterus and fallopian tubes to cause PID.
In other words, untreated toilet infection (vaginal infection) can cause pelvic inflammatory disease
When there is infection in the vagina or the cervix is infected, inserting an IUD at that point in time can cause PID.
Some other causes of PID include
- Damage to the cervix as a result of abortion, childbirth or miscarriage
- Procedure that involves the opening of the cervix such as abortion, inspection of the womb etc.

However, It is worth noting that while men cannot have PID, they can still contract sexually transmitted infections, including urethritis, orchitis, or prostatitis.
